Money Minute
A spending plan (also known as a budget) is a financial tool that helps people direct their income towards expenses. A spending plan shows how much money is coming in (income) and how much is going out (expenses). With this information, you can determine how best to allocate your funds to meet your immediate and long-term goals.
The internet offers a multitude of strategies and tips for creating a spending plan. Rather than finding the “right” technique, just get started. This can be as simple as a sheet of paper with your income listed on the top minus your expenses listed below. Or finding an online worksheet like this simple budget template provided by the Federal Trade Commission. If you prefer a digital strategy, there are a variety of apps available as well.
