The start of fall is a great time to assess the safety of your home and begin to prepare for the change of seasons.

  • Deep clean the interior of your home. Store summer toys and tools that are no longer needed.
  • Dispose of chemicals and unused medications.
  • Assess home security. Check outdoor lighting and locks on doors and windows.
  • Remove or minimize fall risks.
  • Check fire extinguisher expiration and replace if necessary. Make sure all household members know how to use a fire extinguisher.
  • Create and practice an escape plan in the event of a fire.

          Money Minute

The end of August is the end of National Make a Will Month, but you can still use Twin Cities Habitat's Free Will online tool to get started any time of the year. Many Habitat supporters choose to include a donation in their wills and trusts as a way to have long-term impact, without any upfront cost during their lifetimes.

Planned giving is for everyone who wants to build a legacy, regardless of age or income. Making a will is one of the most impactful ways to extend your love and generosity for your families and friends. It can also help build homes and foundations to thrive in your community. Learn about our Free Will online tool today!

          Solar*Rewards

Solar*Rewards® is your opportunity to have solar for your home. It is an incentivized program provided by Xcel Energy, so annual solar production-based payments are made to the owner of the solar system in exchange for Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) for the energy produced by the solar system. Solar*Rewards customers receive net energy metering benefits. When the system produces more solar energy than is needed, the extra energy is added to our grid, and you may receive a credit on your monthly billing statement. Habitat for Humanity candidates are listed as income eligible for Xcel’s Solar Rewards program. Learn more!
