Money Minute

How to start saving money

With the new year just around the corner, many people will be starting savings goals for 2026. Saving on a tight budget is possible with small, consistent steps. Start by setting aside even $1–$5 weekly—the habit matters more than the amount. Automate transfers to savings if you can, so it happens without effort. Cut one small expense, like a coffee or subscription, and redirect that money.

Use “found money” from tax refunds or gifts to boost savings. Most importantly, prioritize needs over wants. Saving is about mindset—start small, stay consistent, and watch your financial security grow. Your future self will thank you for decisions about savings you make today!
