Monthly Maintenance

  • Door Security: Feeling safe in your own home is of utmost importance and your entry doors are the place where any home security plan starts. There are many ways to increase the security of your entry doors that only require a screwdriver or a drill and some special parts. This video can show you where to get started: Double Your Door Security for $1 - Entry Door Reinforcement.

  • Interior Door Hanging: There may come a time when you need to replace the entirety of an interior door all the way to the frame. If you think you’d want to try to do this on your own the good news is it’s totally possible! This video walks you through the steps to installing an interior door on your own: How to Install a Pre-Hung Interior Door | Ask This Old House - YouTube.

  • Door Adjustments: It’s natural for doors to sag over time and get out of adjustment. Luckily re-adjusting your door to get it swinging in proper alignment is something you can do with basic hand tools. This video shows some of the tips and tricks for getting your door back to what it should be: How to Adjust Any Door Without Special Tools.

  • Dehumidifier: In the spring and summer you may notice that your door is sticking or is otherwise harder to close than it normally is. That’s because with all the moisture in the air during the warmer months your door has actually soaked up a lot of that moisture like a sponge. If you’re running into this problem we recommend purchasing a dehumidifier and running it in the spring and summer.

  • Garage Doors: If your garage door ever goes off its tracks or otherwise has any issues we strongly recommend calling a professional. The tension in the springs is powerful enough to be dangerous and if you aren’t specially trained we suggest leaving it to the people who are.

Money Minute — Managing Financial Challenges

When uncertainty rises, focusing on needs over wants and building even a modest emergency cushion can provide stability. Reviewing financial plans, seeking available community resources, and staying flexible can help maintain control and protect well‑being during rapidly changing circumstances.

We know the financial impacts of the recent immigration enforcement activities in our community may take time to fully understand. Habitat remains deeply committed to supporting and stabilizing housing for all our neighbors. If you or your family are experiencing financial hardship connected to today’s events or the uncertainty they’ve created, please reach out to homeowner@tchabitat.org.
