Monthly Maintenance

Spring cleaning season has started! Below are several minor interior cleaning and maintenance projects that are good to tackle this time of year.

  • Clean cooktop and filters – Clean your oven filters and range to remove grease buildup that could be flammable.
  • Clean the inside of your oven – To increase the lifespan of your oven, clean it regularly.
  • Vacuum lint from your dryer vent – The dryer is one of the most flammable appliances in your home. Cleaning both inside the dryer and the vent to the exterior will help keep your family safe.
  • Check your furnace air filter and replace it if necessary – The filters for your HVAC unit should be changed every three months.
  • Clean your kitchen appliances – Move other appliances away from the wall and clean the appliance, flooring, and walls.

Preparing and filing your taxes can be one of the most challenging parts of homeownership, but there are resources to help homeowners. A VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) tax prep site is a location where IRS-certified volunteers provide free tax preparation services to eligible individuals. You are eligible to use a VITA site if you meet at least one of the following criteria:

✅ Your income is $64,000 or less (some sites may have lower limits).
              ✅ You have a disability.
✅ You speak limited English and need assistance.
✅ You are 60 years or older (many sites also offer Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) services).

Have you heard of Low Usage Affordability Credit (LUAC)? The Low Usage Affordability Credit (LUAC) is a financial assistance program offered by some utility companies to help low-income customers who use relatively low amounts of electricity or natural gas. This credit is designed to reduce monthly utility bills for qualifying households, making energy costs more affordable. The LUAC is available to residential electric customers in Minnesota who meet income and usage requirements. Customers who qualify for this program receive a 35% credit on the energy they use. Check with your energy provider to see if you qualify. Xcel Energy customers can learn more on their website.
