There are plenty of ways to get involved, learn something new, and connect with your community this summer. We hope you'll join us for one, or all, of the exciting events happening soon. Celebrate National Night Out (Night to Unite) on August 4 by gathering with neighbors to help build stronger, safer communities. Then celebrate with us on August 20 at Meet Me at The Heights! This community block party will feature family-friendly activities, food, partner exhibits, and a ceremonial ribbon cutting as we celebrate The Heights.
Keep the momentum going by joining us on August 29 for our Volunteer & Learn: Station Learning! This hands-on workshop will help you build confidence in caring for your home through tool safety training and interactive stations: lawn care, gutter cleanout, and interior and exterior painting. Whether you're looking to meet new people, celebrate your neighborhood, or gain practical home maintenance skills, there's something for everyone this summer. We hope to see you at these events!

On average, Americans spend about 90% of their time indoors, where the concentrations of pollutants can be two to five times higher than outside. While you're inside keeping cool this summer, keep your indoor air fresh with these tips:
Check your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors to make sure they function properly. This video gives a rundown of how they work and how to make sure they work properly.
Learn about radon and test to make sure levels in your home are safe. See the MN Dept. of Health's guide to radon testing for more information, including where to find radon test kits.
Reduce opportunities for mold to grow by using a bathroom exhaust fan. Make sure to dust the fan periodically to keep it running smoothly.
Clean your kitchen regularly to reduce chances for mold, odor, and bacteria growth. This video highlights how to clean a variety of surfaces including cabinets, appliances, exhaust fans, countertops, and flooring.
Did you know that August is National Make a Will Month? Twin Cities Habitat has partnered with FreeWill to provide access to a free tool to help you create your legally binding will. Making a will is one of the most impactful ways to extend your love and generosity for your families and friends. It can also help build homes and foundations to thrive in your community. Many Habitat supporters choose to include a donation in their wills and trusts to have long-term impact, without any upfront cost during their lifetimes. Planned giving is for everyone who wants to build a legacy, regardless of age or income. Learn how to create your will today!
